If you or your child has an NDIS plan, you may be wondering whether it covers speech pathology. The short answer is: it often can — but the details depend on how your plan is managed and what goals are included.
Here is a plain-English guide to help you understand your options.
The three types of plan management
How your NDIS plan is managed determines which providers you can access. There are three types:
1. Self-managed
You manage your own funding and can choose any provider — registered or unregistered. You pay the provider directly and claim reimbursement from the NDIA.
2. Plan-managed
A plan manager handles payments on your behalf. You can still choose any provider — registered or unregistered. The plan manager pays the provider and manages the paperwork.
3. NDIA-managed (agency-managed)
The NDIA manages your funding directly. You can only use providers who are registered with the NDIS for the specific service you need. This is the most restrictive option in terms of provider choice.
What this means for speech pathology with us
Strivesocial Pty Ltd is a registered NDIS provider. However, Strivesocial Speech Pathology is not separately registered as a speech pathology provider under the NDIS.
This means:
- Self-managed participants — yes, you can use your funding for speech pathology sessions with us.
- Plan-managed participants — yes, you can use your funding for speech pathology sessions with us.
- NDIA-managed participants — unfortunately, you cannot access Strivesocial Speech Pathology for speech pathology sessions, as we are not a registered speech pathology provider. However, you may still be able to access other Strivesocial services through the registered entity.
Which NDIS line items cover speech pathology?
